R.E.M.

Green is the sixth studio album released by R.E.M. In the album, the members sought to leave the college rock confines of their initial sound and move in a more pop friendly direction. New instruments were introduced into the mix, perhaps most notably Peter Buck's mandolin, and the members traded instruments in some songs. Michael Stipe refers to the record as R.E.M.'s "heavy metal bubblegum" record, albeit without the "wanky solos." The album was produced by Scott Litt.

Green went 2× Platinum in the United States and achieved success in Britain. The album was supported by a year-long tour.
