"Wolves, Lower" is an R.E.M. song, written by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe, which featured as the opening track to their 1982 debut EP Chronic Town (although listed as track four on the original Chronic Town sleeve). Peter Buck mentions the song to have been "head and shoulders above the rest" of the band's earlier material.[1] Its earliest recorded performance was on November 6, 1981 at Friday's, Greensboro, NC.[2]

Music video[]

Despite not being released as a single on its own, a promotional music video for "Wolves, Lower" was recorded to promote the Chronic Town EP. It was directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris and shot in 1982 at Club Lingerie, Hollywood. The video can be found on the 2006 R.E.M. video release When the Light Is Mine: The Best of the I.R.S. Years 1982–1987 (companion DVD to the And I Feel Fine CD release), where it is labelled as "previously unreleased".
